what if industrial metal, early 90s metalcore, cybergrind, and post-hardcore were all in one song, and it sounded like slipknot's self-titled? despite an obvious love for classic nu metal and its influences and a healthy pop sensibility, this album has a unique sound and is full of surprises on repeat listens. a new wave of nu metal is coming, and this is the high water mark. i hope it will be one of the most influential albums of the decade. for now, it's one of the best albums of the year. upsidedowner
